In 1971, Mr. David Leavitt started to breed the old type of Bulldogge (that is where the antiquated spelling comes from...) from the 17th and 18th century, by crossbreeding the modern English Bulldog with Terrier, American Bulldog and Bullmastiffs...

His aim was the modernisation of the Olde English Bulldog (healthy, powerful, efficient) without the health problems of the modern English Bulldog!

Other breeders within the USA (ex: Carlos Woods, Linda Hermes) and in Europe (ex: Imelda Angehrn, Steve Barnett) followed the efforts of David Leavitt and established their proper bloodlines (ex: Old Type, Dorset Olde Type, Hermes, Woods, Gargoyle and many others...).

The sturdy, heavily muscled Olde English Bulldogge is the ideal dog for those, who are looking for a tough, medium-sized companion. The O.E.B. will closely hook up with her human family and is a pleasurable, even-tempered inmate.

The O.E.B. is adapted for obedience and other dogsporting activities.
